DESCRIPTION:
Tap Into Freedom announces two full scholarships for its 2014 Intensive, to be held July 14-19 in NYC. Scholarships are held online and submissions begin May 1st. Visit the website for details. The intensive features 50hrs of training, a participants package valued at over $200, a specifically designed curriculum, and special guest faculty.

DESCRIPTION:
Riverdance, the international dance-show phenomenon is holding auditions for strong Black Male Tap Dancers and Black Male Singers who can Tap, for its upcoming International tours. The Black Male Tap dancers must be of a high standard. Acrobatic skills and tricks will be an advantage. The Black Male Singers who can Tap must have a strong bass baritone quality of voice, with a strong G. They should be strong tappers or be able to pick up Tap steps easily.

Performance Opportunity – Dorothy Wasserman’s #holdontoyourhats

DESCRIPTION:
As a part of Dorothy Wasserman’s residency in Philadelphia, which has been generously funded by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, any and all members of the area tap community will have the chance to learn Dorothy’s piece, #holdontoyourhats, a fast-moving dance which seamlessly incorporates classic tap steps like the Shim Sham and the Bill Robinson into contemporary choreography. There is partnering, moves from popular culture as well as a little square dancing.

Master class participants have the option of performing the class piece at the final project showing on June 6, 2014 at Caplan Recital Hall, University of the Arts, 211 South Broad Street, Philadelphia. Participation fee of $25 reserves each participant two complimentary tickets to the final showing.

NOTE: In order to participate in the performance (June 6th) you must participate in the workshop (April 27th).

Two New Programs Announced!!

In celebration of Gregory Hines’ Birthday, and the founding of the Tap Legacy Foundation (both February 14th), the foundation is happy to announce two brand new programs. The Tap Legacy Ambassadors Program and the Gregory Hines Story Archive showcase a new focus for Tap Legacy programming. Together these new programs will connect and engage the foundation more fully with the people it serves while continuing to promote the oral tradition and history of tap dance.

About the Tap Legacy Ambassadors Program

The Tap Legacy Foundation has always recognized the importance of people, especially within the context of an oral history. However, it is also people that support the spread of ideas and the continuation of an oral tradition. The Tap Legacy Ambassadors Program provides an opportunity for tap dance enthusiasts all over the world to become an integral part in the promotion and celebration of the history of tap dance. Ambassadors will also play a key role in laying the foundation for the building of the Tap Legacy Center by spreading the ideas upon which the center will stand. Built on these four tenets: Join the Family; Spread the Word; Promote the Legacy; Advance the Art. The Ambassadors Program will ensure that those keen on promoting the legacy of tap dance are provided with the resources they need to do so.

About the Gregory Hines Story Archive

Gregory Hines’ contribution to the field of tap dance are innumerable. While Hines’ artistry is well recognized, his impact on people has had less of a public platform while being equally as important. The Gregory Hines Story Archive provides a public platform through which individuals may submit stories of personal encounters with Hines. The collection of stories will serve as a  reflection of Hines’ unique character and broad impact on those he crossed paths with. Stories submitted will be included in the Tap Legacy Digital Archive, while a curated selection of stories will be posted on GregoryHines.org on an ongoing basis.

Volunteer at the Tap Legacy Gallery Event

The Tap Legacy Foundation is looking for 2-3 Volunteers for the upcoming Tap Legacy Gallery Event (RESCHEDULED FOR FEB 20th).

Volunteers will be tasked with assisting in the setup and breakdown of the event, as well as manning snack and drink tables.

Volunteers are asked to be at the space no later than 5pm, and can expect to be finished by roughly 10pm.
