Henry Phace Roberts from Savannah, Georgia, USA.

A Tap Master and National Treasure, An Honorary Board member of the Tap Legacy™ Foundation, Inc.

As a child he started performing on the streets of Savannah, by the age of 14 he became a professional dancer, few years later he joined the Five Blazers a group known for the one Man Dance. He also performed with a group called the Three Rockets.

Henry was a charter member of the Copasetics, and held the Vice President position from the inception of the group until his passing. His last performance at the age of 87 was with the group on their European tour.

His Movie Credits are= 1984 – The Cotton Club, 1943 – Stormy Weather, 1943 – Cabin in the sky,

He was a guest on major TV variety shows such as = Milton Berle Show, Sammy Davis Jr. Show, The Ed Sullivan Show, The Tonight Show, Kath Smith Hour

Phace also appeared in Little Foxes, Mikado in Swing,  Big Broadcast of 1936, Irene, Jump For Joy, Black and Tan Fantasy.

Gregory Hines Co-Founder of the Tap Legacy™ Foundation in Hot Feet from the Broadway Show Eubie. The clip is from the 1979 Tony Awards Gregory and Maurice Hines performing.

Eubie was a revue featuring the music of Eubie Blake, lyrics by Noble Sissle, Andy Razaf, Tap Legacy™ Honorary Board Member Johnny Brandon – a 2011 Flo-Bert Honoree, F.E. Miller, and Jim Europe.

Eubie ran for 439 performances at the Ambassador Theatre NYC and opened September 20, 1978. conceived and directed by Julianne Boyd and choreographed by Billy Wilson and Tap Legacy™ Honorary Board Member Dr. Henry LeTang.

[Daily Post] Jimmy Slyde HAPPY BIRTHDAY

To all dancers, dance enthusiasts and tap dancers, join us in celebrating the Birthday of Dr. Jimmy Slyde today 10/02/1927, born James Titus Godbolt. A Tap Master, National Treasure and an Honorary Board Member of the Tap Legacy™ Foundation.

He was born in Atlanta, Georgia and grew up in Boston after his family moved there. He began tap dancing at age 12 with teacher Stanley Brown at The New England Conservatory of Music, after seeing Bill Bojangles Robinson perform.

Jimmy Slyde found the Slyde Brothers with Jimmy Sir Slyde Mitchell, he also was part of the tap dance revival of the 1980s.

Slyde was in films such as The Cotton Club, Tap and Round Midnight, as well as a number of television specials. He collaborated with Steve Condos on a program of jazz tap improvisation at the Smithsonian Institution and performed across the United States, France and South America.

In 1989, Slyde received a Tony Award nomination for his Broadway debut in the musical Black and Blue. He was also the recipient the Flo-Bert award – 1991 and the NEA National Heritage Fellowship Award – 1999, the Charles Honi Coles Award – 2001, a Guggenheim Fellowship for Choreography – 2003, and an honorary Doctorate of Performing Arts from Oklahoma City University.

We miss him… Gregory Hines, Tap Legacy™ Foundation Co-Founder and partner.

In this clip following the rhythm…. from the opening scene of 1989 movie TAP.

Some prisoners who are not too happy by the sound of the tap dancing and Follow the rhythm son… let The Man Dance is the predominant voice over from an unseen fan prisoner siding with the Rhythm.

A Must have DVD in every dancers library.
