Pan was born Hermes Panagiotopoulos in Nashville, Tennessee, of Greek and Irish heritage.
Fred Astaire called Pan his ideas man & greatly valued his assistance not just as a source & critic of ideas, but as a rehearsal partner for fine-tuning routines with him and Ginger Rogers. Pan collaborated on 17 out of Astaire’s 31 musical films and 3 of his 4 TV specials, Pan is widely accepted and recognized as one of the most important forces in dance choreography of 20th century film and TV musicals.
