Arthur James Stump Cross and Eddie Stumpy Hartman were the duo dance, Comedy and acting team of Stump & Stumpy.
later on Harold Cromer took over the Stumpy role.
The act was popular from the 1930’s to the 1950’s. They toured the Black Vaudeville circuit with acts such as Buck and Bubbles, The Nicholas Brothers and Duke Ellington.
It became well known that many white comedians would come to see their act and try to perfect their own, including Jerry Lewis and Mel Brooks. Eventually the Stump & Stumpy act moved to bigger and better shows including appearances in Las Vegas with Frank Sinatra.
