Tap Dance is America’s contribution to the world of percussive dance. Passed down through an oral tradition from its inception, Tap Dance has been seen in theaters, clubs, and film around the world. Tap Dancers have also contributed to numerous audio recordings and have been sited as being integral to the evolution of Jazz. As the cultural landscape continues to change nationally and internationally it is imperative that an organization produces situations in which the oral tradition of tap dance may be continued, the contributions of tap dancers may be promoted, and the art form may be re-discovered and explored in all its facets for generations to come.
Our heart and vision is to facilitate the continuation of the rich oral tradition that tap dance relies upon for its sustainability.
Using new technologies, modern forms of communication, and an esthetic rooted in the class and dignity of the art form, Tap Legacy exists to build a home for the art of tap dance. It is our mission to preserve its past, support its present needs, and continue the work for its growth.
