The Actors Fund is a national human services organization that helps everyone – performers and those behind the scenes – who works in performing arts and entertainment, serving nearly 12,000 people annually. Programs include social services and emergency assistance, health care and insurance, housing, and employment and training services.
The Dancers’ Resource, a program of The Actors Fund, addresses the distinctive needs of dancers facing health problems or injuries. The Dancers’ Resource was created in recognition of the unique situations dancers face because of their demanding work coupled with the significant financial challenges of earning a living in dance.

Career Transition For Dancers is a national nonprofit organization that enables dancers to define their career possibilities and develop the skills necessary to excel in a variety of disciplines. From pre-professional to mid-career and mature dancers, their programs help dancers in every stage of their career. They offer services to all styles of dancers, including tap dancers, in the areas of Career counseling, financial assistance, and informational resources. All programs are provided free of charge. They also offer an online mentoring database (National Career Network), archived videos of Career Conversations, and over 300 Transition links to other career-related resources.

The Harkness Center for Dance Injuries specializes in the orthopaedic care of dancers. Our mission is to enhance the health, well-being and quality of life of dancers and dance companies by providing state-of-the-art, affordable medical care.
The Center was founded in 1989 in partnership with the Harkness Foundation for Dance and NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases in response to the New York dance community’s critical need for specialized and affordable health care. Still today more than 50% of dancers are uninsured or underinsured and cannot afford the medical help they need. The Harkness Center for Dance Injuries and the NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases offer many subsidized and free services including orthopaedic and sports medicine clinics, physical therapy and athletic training services, and injury prevention lectures and workshops.
